Two years ago, Gabe Newell stated that bitcoin will likely not come to Steam.
And this past week, BitPay and Valve have announced the ability to load your Steam wallet with bitcoin.
While it is great news that Steam is allowing a way for bitcoinholders to purchase credits through a BitPay fiat conversion, it stops short of full bitcoin integration which would be ideal.
Because the extent of bitcoin involvement is limited to BitPay third party payment processing, there is little incentive for existing Steam users to actually adopt bitcoin for the purpose of consuming Valve products.
Having bitcoin involved with Steam is a form of advertising really, so there's going to be some people who have not heard of it who become intrigued when seeing the bitcoin payment option.
